There is no question that every person in this world would love to be able to do what they love for a living and this is usually the thing that causes the biggest dilemma for most people when they finish high school and they find themselves having to decide what do to with their lives.
College is not for everyone
There is no doubt that college is not something from everyone to do or experience. There are many people all over the world who have completely skipped college and they have become quite successful, but that depends on the kind of career you wish to have.
Many professions still require a degree
There are many professions that still require that a person has a degree and then gets a license for their profession. This includes people who work as doctors, lawyers and engineers. Other profession do not require a degree, but many still do.
The safe way or the risky way
The first thing that most parents tell their kids is that they need to look for a career that provides a safe path towards financial success, but the truth is that the world has changed quite a bit and things are very different now.
Many changes have occurred in the last 30 years and no job is safe in the modern world in the way that it might have been.
The competition is much larger and companies are constantly firing people and hiring new people to replace them.
The point is that there is really no such thing as a safe career anymore, but getting certain degrees will make things easier for you when you try to land a job.
Being completely honest with yourself
If you are still feeling like you can’t make up your mind about what you should be studying, you might want to consider just how good you are at what you love. This is going to be a difficult thing to do, but you need to be brutally honest with yourself.
A good example would be if you want to become a singer, but you have a voice that is not gifted in this particular skill. You could get coaching to become a singer that is able to stay on the right keys when singing, but this is only going to allow you to be as good as hundreds of thousands of other aspiring singers.
The point is that you need to ask yourself if you are truly good enough at what you love. Do you have the skills to make a good living from it, or would you be suffering from serious financial issues for making this decision? These are important questions to ask yourself in order to make a decision.
Think of the possible outcomes
When you tell yourself that you want to do what you love, you might not be thinking about the many sacrifices you could end up having to make for that decision. If doing what you love will bring very little financial gain, you might have to settle for living in a small place in a dangerous neighbourhood, or use public transportation because you cannot afford a vehicle.
Other possibilities include not having enough money to start and support a family and that would definitely be a very disappointing thing to experience when you grow older and you might want to start a family with someone you love.
When you are young, you will usually have a hard time being able to associate your life with this kind of thoughts, but you keep in mind that the way you think in your early twenties will probably not be the same when you are in your thirties or forties.
What you love can be your hobby
You could easily turn what you love into your hobby instead of trying to make a living from it. If you feel that you have the talent to turn it into a career, ten by all means pursue it, but keep in mind what we have mentioned in this post.
Hopefully this information will help you make a decision in regards to your career choice and the kind of future you want to have.
